Embryonic Stem Cell Research

Recently, Senator Arlen Spector decided he was going to try and pass a bill that would support embryonic stem cell research by receiving federal funding. His bill states that the stem cells they use will only come from embryos that would have been discarded by in vitro fertilization clinics. In addition to this, the people donating the embryos must give their written consent to allow them to use their embryos for research. I believe that this bill should pass because if the abortions are going to happen anyways, there is no use in discarding the embryos when they could be used for something good. The stem cell research could help in finding cures for diseases and would better the lives of many people.

  1. I agree with what you are saying. Abortions are going to happen whether they are legal or not, so they should use the embryos and do the research on them instead. I think it could do good, because you are right, it could help sure diseases and help many people

  2. stem cell research through umbilical chord...ever heard of it. when my little brother was born, we put his stem cells from the chord into a special bank system for the similar reasons embryonic cells are used. good job science.

  3. This is true Dierdre. It is better to use the cells then just have them go to waste. Especially with written consent from the person, I see very little harm done if this bill is passed, but much to gain.

  5. I agree that when gone about in a way like this bill poses that stem cell research has the potential to help many people and will be away to advance these medical studies in a less harmful manner.

  6. I definately agree. Abortions are just a part of some lives, and there is no harm using something that someone else was going to throw away. We also really need science advances in cureing many more things than we already do.It's almost like one man's trash is anothers tresure.
