Expunging Education Exigency

Many see cutting back on funding advanced schooling as a way to help rid California of the debt we've gotten into. This will effect a lot of us high schoolers personally, as we are going to be departing our homes and venturing into college in less than a year. If college becomes more and more expensive, then less and less people will be able to afford it and therefore less people will become educated on a higher level. Though this may contribute to the current resolution of our debt, it could also possibly pose a problem for the future in that not many will be qualified for important jobs that require advanced schooling.

  1. This bad economy is affecting everyone and this is proof of it. One thing is leading to the next. We need to get out of this sooner rather than later

  2. Though it may be easier to see the positives of helping our country out of its debt rather than focusing on the long term affects of those of us heading off to college and our futures, i think that that portion of the situation is really the most important. Yes, it would be nice to alleviate debt, but if we are just posing more issues for those of our future generations then all in all we are working backwards rather than forwards.

  3. I think that education, especially making higher level education available and affordable, is such an important goal to work toward. The only way to make things better and to not simply postpone the problem at hand is to face the issue upfront and make society as a whole better able to attack similar problems in the future.

  4. i agree with you deirdre, if California wants to regain its position as a global economy, we will need to have higher educated people to lead the way in technology, industry, medicine, and much more. We are no longer an industrial state, we need to have a highly educated population to sell our knowledge, developments, and innovations like we have been doing for so long. the last thing we want to do, in my opinion, is make selfish decisions to make today look better while ignoring our damages to tomorrow
